Green Ecolution
Smart irrigation and green-space management platform for municipalities based on LoRaWAN sensor data and route optimization.







Urban green spaces need water, but how much, and when? City maintenance teams often drive fixed routes, watering trees on a schedule rather than based on actual need. This wastes water, fuel, and staff time.
Green Ecolution changes that: soil moisture sensors (LoRaWAN) report real-time data to the platform, which derives the watering needs of individual trees and tree clusters and calculates optimized watering routes. Teams see exactly which trees need attention, plan efficient routes, and manage their fleet, all in one place.
The software covers the management of trees and tree clusters including their watering status, sensor integration via LoRaWAN/MQTT, the calculation of efficient watering routes using the Valhalla routing engine, the management of vehicles and watering plans, and analytics on water consumption and completed watering runs.
Green Ecolution was initially developed as a research project within the Applied Computer Science master's program at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the local green space management authority (TBZ Flensburg). While tailored to the specific needs of Flensburg, the system is designed to be adaptable to other cities, enabling scalable and data-driven irrigation of urban greenery.
